Silent,

I slip among you –

The Invisible Woman.

I eat your food,

I laugh at your jokes,

I nod and smile at words

brittle as bones and nourishing as chalk.

Skinless,

I leak and stain

but your eyes are glazed,

mannequin-sockets

staring spell-bound at the world,

unblinking plastic.

I feel and think

and dream dreams of being called by name

while you step through me,

careless in your banter.

Silent,

I slip among you –

The Invisible Woman.

There are many among us who feel invisible. Marginalized. Overlooked and underrated. A word, an act of kindness, a welcoming smile, these can all be used to reduce the invisibility of a woman in your world. What will you do for someone today?
